Abstract

Mathematics is applied in every fields of study and has continued to play a significant role in the growth and development of any country. To achieve the modern day technology in teaching and learning, Mathematics by the year 2025, emphasis should be laid on the use of instructional materials. Instructional materials help to make teaching effective and learning permanent to learners. The purpose of this paper is to construct global ball for point location for teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary schools and colleges. This serves as instructional material and global ball for point location is used for teaching longitude and latitude in senior secondary schools. This paper introduced global ball for point location as an aspect of mathematics and its importance to other aspect of mathematics was discussed. The statement of has reported poor achievement of students in mathematics. Global ball for point location is being introduced to help in the improvement of the standard of mathematics understanding in longitude and latitude. The method of using global ball for point location was introduced. The global ball was made up iron rod and calibrated numbers in degree north and south of the equator and degree west and east of the equator. The use of global ball for point location will enhance effective teaching and learning of mathematics, which will go a long way in encouraging students that are not interested in learning mathematics to develop an in interest, In conclusion, it was recommended that Government should encourage the use of global ball for point location in the teaching and learning of mathematics in all secondary schools. Also, Mathematics teachers should be trained and retrained in the use of global ball for point location to teach different concepts in mathematics. This should be done through seminars, workshops and conferences.
