Abstract

Background: Patient satisfaction has become an established outcome indicator of the quality and efficiency of the healthcare systems. Patient satisfaction with nursing services is considered the most crucial factor in the molding of overall patient satisfaction with hospital services, and reflects the ability of the provider to meet the patient’s needs.

Objective: To assess the determinants of patients satisfaction with nursing care in selected three governmental teaching hospitals in Sudan.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted in three governmental teaching hospitals from 2022 to 2023. It included 700 patients selected by total coverage technique. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews using the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ) and analyzed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (Version 24).

Results: The results revealed that the overall mean score of patient satisfaction with the quality of nursing care was very good (M = 2.57, SD = ± 0.877). There was a significant association between (marital status, educational level, residence, and previous hospitalization) with patient satisfaction at P - value  (P ˂ 0.05).

Conclusion: The study concluded that the overall patient satisfaction with the quality of nursing care was very good. There was a significant association between marital status, occupation, educational level, residence, and previous hospitalization with patient satisfaction.

Recommendations: Improving the quality of nursing care should focus more on educated patients. Further studies are needed to assess patient satisfaction with nursing care across all hospitals.
