Abstract

This review article critically examines four scholarly perspectives on the portrayal of women in Indian literature, encompassing both contemporary fiction and mythological retellings. The selected articles, "Breaking the Stereotype: Women in Indian Fiction in English" by Dr. Manjit Kaur, "Portrayal of Women in Literature – Through the Ages" by Sima Singh, "Reclaiming Female Identity: Feminist Retellings of the Hindu Epics" by Vikram Singh, and "Draupadi: Modern Woman Voice in ‘The Palace of Illusion’ by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni" by Radhikaben M. Mistry, offer diverse approaches and insights into feminist literary criticism. Through an in-depth analysis, this review highlights common themes, narrative styles, and theoretical frameworks employed by the authors, while also exploring their unique contributions to the discourse on gender and literature.
