A Study on the Human Psyche in Vijay Tendulkar’s Silence! The Court is in Session with Reference to Personology Theories
Abstract
This research paper examines the psychological dimensions of Vijay Tendulkar’s Silence! The Court is in Session, employing Personology theories, particularly Henry Murray’s Need-Press Model and Freudian psychoanalysis. The play functions as a critique of gender oppression and psychological manipulation, revealing the ways in which societal norms dictate individual behaviour. The study closely analyzes the characters’ internal conflicts, repressive tendencies, and the psychological mechanisms governing their actions. Through an in-depth textual analysis, this paper highlights how the courtroom setting serves as a symbol of societal judgment and how the fate of Benare embodies the psychological violence imposed upon women.
