India's Bilateral Trade with Pakistan: A study based on Trade Intensity Index

Abstract

Indo-Pak bilateral trade had grown massively when both countries established trade relations with good motives. The paper ultimately investigates the significant trends in bilateral trade. It explores the primary concern behind the bilateral trade between the countries during the time frame mentioned in the study, from 2010 to 2018. The study employed the Export Intensity Index and Import Intensity Index to determine which countries enjoy an upper hand over one another. The findings suggest that India witnessed decent growth during the study period compared with Pakistan, and India had a good export intensity over Pakistan. The result also indicates that India's import intensity with Pakistan is below the par level, revealing India enjoys a trade surplus with Pakistan. In contrast, agriculture and industry were the primary commodities traded between India and Pakistan.
