Quantitative Analysis of Plant Biodiversity of Bagla, Raya Suchani Area Of Samba District of Jammu and Kashmir
Abstract
Biodiversity comprises variety of life forms at all the levels of ecosystem and includes Species diversity, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity. This study aims to quantitatively assess the biodiversity of main campus and near-by area of Central University of Jammu, Bagla, Raya Suchani in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. Total of 34 quadrats were plotted for studying tree and shrub species of this area. Shannon- Wienner Index and Simpson’s Index were also calculated to assess the species diversity and dominance of particular species in the study area. Murraya koeniggi and Mallotus philippensis found to be the dominant shrub and tree species respectively. Biodiversity of the study area is affected by various anthropogenic activities and need to be maintained and improved.
