Integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into Teacher Education: A Path to Holistic and Inclusive Learning
Abstract
Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) encompass a rich repository of traditional Indian wisdom, spanning Vedic sciences, philosophical texts, Ayurveda, Yoga, and diverse regional folk traditions. These knowledge streams offer holistic, culturally rooted, and deeply value-based perspectives to the predominantly Western-centric models that shape most modern education today. The integration of IKS into teacher education is essential to prepare teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and pedagogical approaches so that they can confidently and meaningfully incorporate India’s indigenous heritage into today’s classrooms.
