Digital Tool Integration, Technological Adaptation, and Patient Management Practices of Radiologic Technologists in Chinese Healthcare Institutions
Abstract
Digital transformation has become a central component of modern healthcare, particularly in radiology, where advanced imaging technologies, electronic health records (EHRs), picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), and artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly shape clinical workflows. In China, national policies promoting smart hospitals and digital health have significantly expanded the technological responsibilities of radiologic technologists. This study examined the level of digital tool integration, technological adaptation, and patient management practices of radiologic technologists in selected Chinese healthcare institutions, as well as the relationships among these variables. Using a descriptive correlational research design, data were collected from 57 radiologic technologists through a validated researcher-developed questionnaire. Results revealed very high levels of digital tool integration and technological adaptation, alongside consistently strong digital patient management practices. Digital integration showed a significant positive relationship with patient management practices, indicating that systematic use of digital platforms enhances workflow efficiency and patient-centered care. However, no significant relationship was found between technological adaptation and patient management practices, nor between integration and adaptation, suggesting that access to and integration of digital systems do not automatically translate into adaptive behavioral change. The findings highlight the critical role of organizational support, structured training, and system-level integration in maximizing the benefits of digital transformation. An action-oriented approach emphasizing continuous professional development, data security, and feedback mechanisms is recommended to sustain digital competencies and improve patient care outcomes in China’s evolving radiologic practice.
