Abstract

The growth of online and digital technology within the education systems has essentially altered the method of assessment in schools, colleges and universities. The research article explores the degree to which online and digital evaluation approaches affect the academic performance of students basing on the current theory and considering in-depth a plethora of empirical findings. The discussion places online testing within the wider technology and pedagogical changes, which observe how technology developments within digital platforms of learning, artificial intelligence-powered tools and remote testing have influenced how students have been assessing their learning. Through analysis, it has been established that digital assessment offers considerable pedagogical benefits such as real-time feedback, flexibility, better interaction and increased opportunities of customized learning. Meanwhile, academic dishonesty, inequalities in digital access, reliability and validity, and student anxiety due to technology are all significant challenges that influence the outcomes of assessment. The article states that academic performance in the digital assessment age is not merely a technological by-product but a convergence of learner ready, pedagogical design, institutional structures, and socio-economic practices. This paper concludes by determining that online and digital assessments should be incorporated in learner-centered pedagogical concepts that emphasize digital literacy, accessibility and integrity. The report offers suggestions on how the digital assessment practice should be intensified to achieve strong and fair student achievement results.
