Trademark and Copyright in Myanmar: A Comparative Research Review with ASEAN
Abstract
Since 2020, Myanmar has revamped its intellectual property (IP) system, rolling out new Trademark and Copyright Laws that finally replaced old colonial rules. Now, the country has a more current framework for registering, enforcing, and protecting IP. Still, there are some bumps in the road—enforcement is tricky, awareness is low, and the institutions handling IP have a lot to catch up on. This review pulls together the latest research, including work by Myanmar scholars like Dr. Khin Thin Thin Oo and Mya Thida Kyaw, plus industry reports and ASEAN policy updates. By looking at how Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore have handled these issues, we can spot what’s working in the region and what Myanmar can learn from its neighbors.
