Abstract

The objective of this research is to figure out how a life pursued for pleasure in a hedonistic way affects one’s mental and physical health. The method used to conduct the research is a thematic analysis of past work. The main contribution of hedonism here is cited as the philosophy of excess or indulgence; however, if done mindfully and moderately, one can get significant advantages from it. The application of psychological theory, such as hedonic well-being and Self-Determination Theory, to this paper outlines how purposeful happiness deriving activities as leisure, social connection, and creative engagement, help improve mood, decrease stress, and emotional resilience. In terms of effect on physiology, research on positive emotional experiences has demonstrated reduced levels of cortisol, improved immune function, better cardiovascular health, and higher quality sleep. This study also discusses the part mindfulness plays here as it moderates, allowing one to enjoy pleasure responsibly, without falling into the same habits of overindulgence or escapism that caused the problem in the first place. The cultural factor, as well as the ethical factor, are also brought up to this extent that it is stated how differently hedonism might be seen due to differences in societies. The analyzed materials, such as philosophical texts and articles, alongside empirical studies, are utilized as secondary sources to carry out a qualitative and thematic research. Due to the fact that there are no primary data and cross-cultural empirical observations, the research evidence remains at the hypothesis stage, but still, it provides valuable insights about the health-enhancing potential of pleasure. Still, these results serve as a good argument for the incorporation of conscious hedonism as part of the mental health service, the public wellness strategy, and even lifestyle choices. Imagine hedonism as a strategic ethical contributor to the human flourishing movement; it becomes a new model for grasping the well-being concept in today's world.
