Exploring Narratives of Empowerment in Modern Hindi Cinema
Abstract
This paper will explore the journey and the role of women emphasising their empowerment being represented in modern Hindi movies using the development of characters, narrative and artistic depiction. In the course of time, narrations expressing the lives, sufferings, and aim at self-realisation of women have become increasingly common in the mainstream Indian cinema. To discuss the way female characters evolve as they grow in different ways due to inner metamorphosis, social pressures, and problems of their own, this paper examines four movies dedicated to women: English Vinglish (2012), Thappad (2020), Laapataa Ladies (2023), and Queen (2014).
