Voicing the Voiceless: Language and Silence as the Strategies of Resistance in the works of Mahashweta Devi and Vijay Tendulkar
Abstract
This research paper looks at how Mahashweta Devi and Vijay Tendulkar showcase women in their works and how they resist the unfair treatment done by the society using both speech and silence. Their works “The Hunt”, “The Breastgiver” and Silence! The Court is in Session explores how women struggles against patriarchy, caste and class oppression. Mahashweta Devi shows both language and silence as the strategies of resistance in her works and Vijay Tendulkar shows how society tries to silent women and uses their words against them.
