School Ownership and Funding Practices as Tools for Effective Administration of Public Secondary Schools in Delta State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigated school ownership and funding practices as tools for effective administration of public secondary schools in Delta State, Nigeria.  Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated.  The descriptive research design of the ex-post facto type was adopted. The population comprised all the 489 principals of public secondary schools in Delta State; and a sample of 50 was drawn.  The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled, “School Ownership and Funding Practices for Effective Administration of Secondary Schools Questionnaire”.  This was validated by experts and a reliability index of 0.78 was established using test-retest method adopting the Pearson (r) statistics.
