The Impact of Community Extension Programs on Faculty Instruction and Research Competency at the University of Cebu - Main Campus
Abstract
This study explores the impact of community extension programs on faculty instructional content, teaching skills, and research competencies. Findings reveal that participation enhances faculty understanding of cultural diversity, leading to more relevant and practical teaching strategies. Exposure to real-world challenges fosters innovative pedagogy, improving concept simplification and student assessment. Engagement in community extension also strengthens research capabilities by providing insights into diverse methodologies and industry-related issues.
Higher education institutions should integrate community extension into faculty development, incorporate experiential learning in curricula, and provide continuous training, mentorship, and research support to maximize these benefits. Establishing long-term community partnerships will ensure these programs' sustainability and continuous improvement, fostering stronger connections between education, research, and community development.
