Conservation of Moral and Physical Environment in Islam.
Abstract
Islamic teachings highlight the relationship between humans, their moral duties, and the environment. Rooted in Tawhid (the oneness of Allah), Islam promotes the stewardship of both physical and moral environments. The moral environment, guided by principles of justice, moderation, and compassion, encourages responsible behavior toward all creation. Similarly, the physical environment, as a divine manifestation, must be preserved according to the ethical guidelines of the Qur'an and Hadith. This article explores the theological foundations of environmental conservation in Islam, emphasizing humanity’s role as stewards (khalifah) and the interconnectedness of all life. It discusses Islamic principles of sustainability, such as avoiding waste and maintaining balance in ecosystems. Additionally, the paper examines contemporary initiatives and challenges in applying Islamic environmental ethics. By analyzing both the moral and physical aspects of conservation, this paper demonstrates how Islamic teachings offer a framework for sustainable living and ethical interaction with nature.
