Effectiveness of Government Funding on Educational Growth in Nigeria: the Role of TETFund.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of government funding on educational growth in Nigeria, with a focus on the role of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). The study uses a case study approach, focusing on two institutions: Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State, and Enugu State College of Education, Enugu State. The study investigates the impact of TETFund interventions on the educational growth of these institutions, including the development of infrastructure, acquisition of educational resources, and enhancement of staff capacity. The study also explores the challenges and limitations of TETFund's interventions and their implications for educational growth in Nigeria. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. The study finds that TETFund's interventions have had a significant impact on the educational growth of the two institutions, leading to improvements in infrastructure, educational resources, and staff capacity. However, the study also identifies challenges and limitations, including inadequate funding, bureaucratic bottlenecks, and limited institutional capacity. The study recommends that the government should increase funding for TETFund, streamline its operations, and build the capacity of beneficiary institutions to ensure the sustainability of its interventions. The study contributes to the existing literature on education financing and policy in Nigeria, and provides insights for policymakers, educators, and other stakeholders.
