Abstract

This study investigates the impact of classroom management and control on the academic performance of students in Colleges of Education in Southeast Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research focuses on two case studies: Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State, and Alvan Ikokwu College of Education, Owerri, Imo State. The study aims to identify the relationship between effective classroom management and students' academic achievement, as well as the challenges faced by educators in maintaining a conducive learning environment. The findings reveal that effective classroom management and control significantly influence students' academic performance. Factors such as teacher-student relationships, instructional strategies, and discipline management were found to be crucial in determining students' academic outcomes. However, the study also highlights the challenges faced by educators, including inadequate resources, large class sizes, and lack of support from school administrators. The study recommends that educators and policymakers prioritize effective classroom management strategies and provide necessary support to enhance students' academic performance.
