DETERMINATION OF EDUCATIONAL WASTAGE RATES FOR BUDGET PLANNING IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IMO STATE
Abstract
The study determined the educational wastages rates for budget planning in public secondary schools in Imo State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 296 principals in the 296 public secondary schools in Imo State. Stratified random sampling technique was utilized to draw 148 principals for the study. The researcher-developed instrument titled ‘Inventory Proforma for Educational Wastages (IPEW)’ was used for data collection. Data analysis was done using percentage for answering the research questions and chi-square to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed among others that female students have lower repetition rates of 0.9% than their male counterparts with 1.1% for budget planning in public secondary schools in Imo State. It was also found out male students have lower drop out rates of 0.7% than their female counterparts with 0.8% for budget planning in public secondary schools in Imo State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the principals should reinforce and strengthen the school counsellors to constantly monitor the activities of students who repeated class and offer them the needed assistance to prevent them from dropping out of school.
